TKAM Chapter #7

Choice C: So far, is this a novel about race? Class? Gender? Coming of Age? Place? Select and defend your answer:
So far i think that this novel is mostly about race and a little bit about coming of age. Almost all that people in this book are raciest. They didn't like how Atticus was defending a black person. When ever Atticus walked by someone or just if Jem or Scout talk to someone they would almost always call Atticus "nothing but a nigger that he's working for". The town didn't let black people go to there church or be there friend. During the trial we saw or read a lot of people being raciest. Atticus told all the people in the court that you could be raciest out side of court but in court everyone should be treated the same. Tom ended up being pleaded guilty, almost everyone was shocked. At the end of Atticus's speech all of the black people stud up to honor him.
Aunt Alexandra wants to be the mother figure in Scouts life, so she invites the neighborhood girls to come and eat with them. Aunt Alexandra wants Scout to learn how to act like a laddie because she's been with men her whole life. Scout tries her best to act like a laddie and she finds out things about the neighborhood on the way.

Chapters 12-14
Perspective: Atticus

So I called Aunt Alexandra to come so Scout has a girl in her life. Scout doesn’t really like her I can tell. She says she fine with aunt a moving in but I no she’s not. Aunt A didn’t have to worry about fighting in or not knowing anyone. The whole town said hello to her when she walked by and said there happy to see her.

Scout asked me what rape was the other day it kind of made me a little PENSIVE. Scout talks about how she wants to go back to Cal’s church, this is the first time I herd they went to her church. Aunt A didn’t like that of course she didn’t like that, she doesn’t even like Cal. She told me that I needed to get ride of Cal but I said know. She thinks she’s infallible. That night Scout and Jem got in a fight and I had to brake it up Jem told Scout to not antagonize Aunty. I told Scout and Jem to go to bed, when I went into Scouts room and I found Dill under her bed. Dill emerged and told me the whole story, I guess that Scout had not idea that he was under there. I thought I was being very pensive with letting Dill stay.

Journal #4
Chapters 10, 11, & 12
Perspective: Jem
I don’t like how old my dad is, he’s not the same age as the others he’s older. He can never do anything with Jem and me. If we want to play football we can’t jump on him because his back starts hurting. The other dad’s play around with their kids sometimes I get a little jealous.

When my dad was at work Jem and I were playing outside when we see Tim (the dog) walking or limping down the sidewalk. We run in side to tell Cal, at first she doesn’t believe us. We show her what the dog looked like then we take her out to show her the real thing. The dog was just walking slowly down the sidewalk it looked like it had rabies or something. Cal took us in side and called Atticus, she told him to come down and bring a gun. She ran out side and told everyone that there was a mad dog on the loose. When Atticus came him and Heck took out there guns Heck wanted Atticus to do it. He wasn’t sure if he could shoot anymore, about 5 seconds later he shot it. I thought that my dad couldn’t do anything but that just proved me wrong. I found out that they used to call me “One-shout Finch”.

Mrs. Dubose Is a lady that lives down the street. Whenever we walk bye her house she starts yelling at us. I herd from Jem that he called Atticus “niggers and trash he works for.” so he took what she said and smashed all her plants. Atticus found out and he made Jem read to her. Some days later Mrs. Dubose died and she left Jem a box and in that box was a white camellia.

Cal took Jem and I to a black church. It felt really weird at first but then we got used to it. Aunt A came I really don’t like her she wants to move in and get ride of Cal. Right now she’s really making me mad well that’s all for now.

Chapters 8-9

Perspective of Atticus

I woke up this morning to the scream of scout. I ran to her room to see what was wrong and I found her look out the window with Jem. It hasn’t snowed here scenes the 1880’s so know one really new what it was. When we were eating we got a phone call that said there was know school today because it was snowed in. Jem and Scout went out side I saw them taking snow from Miss. Maudie’s yard. I thought maybe there going to do a snowball fight or something, but then they got some mud too. I watched as Jem worked with what he had. At first the snowman looked like Mr. Avery but then they put a hat on it and that changed everything.

That night

I ran out side something was wrong I went over to Miss. Maudie’s house, the whole place was on fire. I see people helping her save her furniture, and the fire department came. Good thing the came when they did because the fire would have burned down a lot more houses. The next morning she look happy she was telling her kids that she wanted to remodel the house anyways and now she has the chance to do it.

Scout got into a fight at school because one of the kids said that I defend black people. I told her never to get in a fight again. My brother came to town (uncle Jack) for Christmas every year then we all go up to the finches landing to see Alexandra and her husband. I found out the Francis was staying there too. Scout and him got in a fight because he called me a “nigger lover”. I got really mad at her for that.

This is how it went Dill and I opened the fence and slowly waked up to the window (in the back yard) but boo hard us and started shooting at us and yelling get off my property. My pants got stuck to the fence so I had to take them off. When I got back Scout asked me what happened to my pants and I had to lie to him. I told him that I lost them in strip poker. The next day I found my pants in the tree but that whole wasn’t there for long it got filled because people thought the tree was deing. It was really hard for me to see that, I was crying.

Question 1- What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
Response: When Savannah told John about her think that his dad had Asperger's. John started to yell and scream at Savannah telling her that she was wrong, but all John's life he never really had a long talk with his dad because they where never that close. John soon after punched a guy that liked Savannah just for asking what was wrong with her. He should have a least listened to Savannah because what she's telling him might be true.

Question 2- Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
Response: I would like to be like Savannah because she's nice and funny. She doesn't fall in love really fast and that's one of things that i like about her, but when she sees John she knows that he's the one. After just a 3 weeks with him she's already told him about everything even the bad things that went on in her life. She's one of those people that get things fast and likes to life her life with no drama in it. Even though Johns not Savannah type at all she willing to give him a shot.
